MSN MEssenger NOt WOrking

Up until today my msn messenger was working fine, when I got home from work I tried to login and it wouldn't allow me giving me an error msg saying it appears I am behind a firewall that doesn't allow a direct connection to the internet. I am on XP with high speed DSL, and I do not have a router and XP firewall isn't enabled. have norton anti virus but disabling it doesn't do anything.
I don't know if it has anything to do with me d/ling the patch for the MSBlast virus because my messenger has always worked fine before, and its not just my account, no other accounts will log onto messenger.. and other versions of messenger wont' work ( I am currently using v 6.0)
