I opened a word document as an attachment on an email, since then I have not actually been able to open MS Word, yet other parts of my MS Office 2000 open without a problem (Excel etc). What happens is it just seems to hang on the splash screen, then goes no further. Does anybody have a solution for me? Need it rather urgently. TIA

See the link in my reply on http://computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/136991.html for the Command line switches for MSWord to see if you can open it another way. I suspect you either have a corrupted normal.dot file or you have a bad add-in trying to load with Word. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe" /n will open word without a New Document. To bypass loading of any add-ins you can click on your shortcut to open word and immediately hold down the Shift key. If Word opens then it is a bad add-in that is trying to load with Word that can be loaded from a couple of different places. Post back if you need to know where they are. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe" /a will open Word without any add-ins similar to above procedure. HTH Bryan

I have exactly the same problem, with exactly the same origin. Word opens ok if I hold down the shift key after I click the shortcut. How do I find the problem add-in and fix it? Thanks for your help
