MS Word Mail Merge Crash

I installed Microsoft Office 2003 on my computer it works fine apart from a few annoying problems one of the them being when ever I use the Word Mail Merge Word closes. If I create a new mail merge when I select the sources word closes and if I open an existing Mail Merge word closes.
All the mail merges I use are from MS Excel 2003. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling MS Office but the problem remains
