Word 2003 not opening files via Windows Explorer. When opening a word doc from Explorer, Word starts up and gets to the 'running virus scan' step, then hangs and blinks. It also seems to freezeup/tie up my laptop. When I can eventually try to close Word, I get the popup msg 'command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open'. However there are no dialog boxes visible anywhere. It also then pops up a msg saying my normal.dot already exists and do I want to replace the existing file. I can open Word first ok then open a file from the file -open menu without any problems. Have tried and created a new normal.dot file but did not make any difference. Any suggestions. thanks if can help,
