I am having trouble opening MS Word for Office 2000 on Windows 98. I can no longer open MS Word. The entire system freezes on me and I have to reboot but still cannot open Word. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and have scanned for viruses but so far NOTHING. HELP!
Possibly your normal.dot is corrupted. If so, then you can start Word with no new document to see.
After opening Word see if you can go to File, New. See if Word freezes again.
If it starts just fine then find and delete the "normal.dot" file (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates) and restart Word. It will replace it on it's own.
