ms word 2000 not responding

i can not open ms word 2000. os is xp professional. everything else in ms office 2000 professional seems to work fine. the hour glass just sets there. nothing happens. help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check For Updates, If There Isnt Any Then Use office.org Instead, As It Uses The Same Formats And Allows Even More As Well As It Being Totally Free

If you go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, click on MS Office, there should be two buttons, one Change and one Remove If you click on the Change button it will offer to do a repair or reinstall.
Summary: When I try to open Word 2000, one of two things happens. Either it attempts and fails to install an update, telling me I need to go to setup then repair, something I don't think is available on Vista....
Summary: Each time I open MS Word 2000, a new document opens on the task bar, ie Document1, Document2, etc. All of a sudden these Document numbers are not resetting after closing Word. I'm up to Document 29!...
Summary: I am receiving emails as attachments that only open with MS Word 2000. The message is cluttered with encrypted path codes and when photos are included in the message body, it doesn't show them at all....
