MS Picture Manager won't save .jpg

Is there a tweak that can get Microsoft Office Picture Manager to save screenshots as something other than bitmap. (The pulldown-menu is there on the "save as" dialog box but then bitmap is the only choice.) I can use Paint to convert the bitmap to a more manageable .JPG, but that extra step gets tedious. I don't see why Picture Manager won't just save it straight to JPEG.

Desktop screenshots or 'grabs' are 'bmp' format because the source (desktop, dialog box etc)is natively bitmap to start with. JPG is intended for photographic images. I think you will just have to carry on converting them.
