Does anyone out there have and could you send me the stand alone version of Microsoft Photo Editor. I have the same problem of the one in my PC. It won't open JPG files, says unknown format...

Try this:
HKCR\jpegfile\shell\Open\command
Make sure the key reads: c:\program files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\PhotoEd\PHOTOED.exe "%1"
And, that in file type associations, the same shows in the Open option in Application used to perform action, which it should after you correct the registry.
