Comment:

Machine came with Win 98
I upgraded to Win XP and reinstalled MS Photo Editor from the Office 97 CD

Photo Editor opens, and works with gif/bmp/etc HOWEVER does not recognize
jpg/jpeg files. jpg is not listed in types of files, and when I try to open one, I get
"unknown file format" message.

Would appreciate any help. Thanks

R.

Go into the File Types option and under "Open" for the jpg files, make sure it reads this: "C:\Program Files\Common\Microsoft Shared\PhotoEd\Photoed.exe" "%1"

Hi
Thanks for the help. It does say that. Problem is that when I open Photo Ed, the list of file types is gif/bmp/pcd/pcx/tga
but no jpg. If I use all files, the jpg can be selected, but the message reads, Photo Ed cannot find/open C:\path\photoname.

Anything else that might be involved?

Perhaps you are just missing the Graphics filters for .jpg in the correct folders similar to the MSPaint problem outlined at http://www.geocities.com/one_human/advanced.html#mspaint_fix

Otherwise, I don't know.

Problem is solved--I had to reinstall a graphics filter off the Office 97 CD. It was repair of a damaged file, so just running CD doesn't do it. You go in and rename the old file "jpegim32.flt" then run the setup.
Complete info in MS Article 162784.

Thanks to all.
