MS Excel 2003 Formula Problem

November 12, 2010 at 07:57:17
Specs: Windows 7
My formula is in a Summary Tab and takes data from another tab in the workbook which I call the Data Tab. The formula reads that I want data to be taken from rows 5 to 150 in the Data Tab, but when some data is added or deleted from the Daa Tab, the formula changes itself to read data from rows 5 to 49. This means that some of the data is not being used in the formula, as data in the Data Tab is present up to row 70. Why does Excel do this, and what can I do to stop it?

When you add or delete rows or columns from a range, Excel updates the formula to reflect those changes.

Try giving the range a Name and then using that Range Name in the formula as opposed to using the cell references.

Look up Range Names in Excel Help (or Google it) if you need instructions on how to create and use named ranges.

If the name range might expand or contract, you can use names that automatically update themselves to reflect those changes.

Read this for info on Dynamic Range Names.
