missing menus

Neighbour has a problem which has been asked before but I cannot see an answer. Using Word '97 the 'view' and 'tools' menus have disappeared. I know I've managed to create menus before but cannot remember how. Restoring defaults doesn't work. Alt-v & Alt-t doesn't work. I tried replacing Normal.dot. Any definite cures please?

Try right clicking on the toolbars and choose customise and choose reset.

With Word closed go to Start, Run, Type in: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe" /r as a single line (Paste in into the run box) and hit the OK button. This will reregister Word. Then try opening Word again.

Have tried the 'reset' option - will give the re-register option a go tomorrow.
Thanks
