Microsoft Word Color Problem

I've been having some problems on the microsoft word program. Everytime I type a letter, the line that it is on turns black. When I scroll up/down the black color disappears. At first I thought something was wrong with my monitor color, but all my other office programs seem to be working fine. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It may be that you have some sort of formatting enabled. Do a search for the file NORMAL.DOT and delete it. By deleting this file, you remove all default conditions that you may have applied in the past, to a blank document. When Word is restarted, the normal.dot file will be re-created, and you can then save any changes that you want eg default font

you may also want to check your display properties -> appearance. pick out one of the windows standard ones and see if that changes the look in Word.
