Why does MS Paint (or other image editing software) affect the size of the image? How can I prevent this? I need to open an image in paint, edit it and then paste it in a document maintaining 100% actual size. Thanks bunches. Mary

Because most image formats store the image size as pixels. The size that is shown is dependent upon the display device. This is the easiest way of keeping the highest resolution. If you store an image by size then the image has to be rendered for the display device. Better software can automatically scale the image to fit the desired space. What is 100%? 4x6 scanned at 300 dpi = 1200x1800, displayed at 72 dpi = 288x432, printed at 600 dpi = 2400x3600.

Thank you for your prompt help. I rescanned my picture at severel settings and found that scanned as a document with text I was ables to maintain the same size when transferring the pict to PS. when I scanned under pict setting at 75, 300, 600 and even 1200psi the size of the picture was smaller. I can now continue with my project. Thank you. Mary
