I had office 95 on my computer and up graded to office 97. I bought a new hard drive and instead of using xcopy32 to transfer files to the new hard drive I just copied and pasted. Now I am having problems with office. It says that I am missing certain dlls and I should use setup to install office 97 to correct the problem. I do not have office 97.I have office 95. Is office 97 backward compatible with office 95?

"I do not have Office 97, I have Office 95." If you do not have Office 97, how did you upgrade from Office 95 to 97?. You cannot simply copy program files, you have to install the new program. How did you "upgrade" from Office 95 to Office 97 without having Office 97?

I'm sorry, I used a copy of office 97 to up grade. I no longer have access to office 97. But I do have office 95.

You can't simply copy a few files from one computer to the other. When a major piece of software installs there are thousands of files stashed all over the hard drive including the registry, Windows/, Windows/System, and Program Files folders.
You should delete the files you copied and install Office 95 from scratch. For 99% of computer users, Office 95 does everything they will ever need.
There are also several Freeware office suites, such as ProSuite602, OpenOffice, and EasyOffice.
Best Luck,
Bob

Bobthearch, Thanks for the heads up. I am using Open Office. I use office 95 for Access. So I guess my question is, can I open the programs that I did in office 97(spreadsheets, word etc.)in office 95? If not will Open Office Work. I just have database files that I did in Access 97 that I need to get to. Also can I update Acess 95 to Access 2000? Thanks again in advance

In order to open files with Office 95 that were created with Office 97, you ~should~ be able to. You may need to download a translator patch from Microsoft. OpenOffice should be able to open basic Word and Excel files. Although if you used some of the advanced MS Office features such as "track changes" those features aren't available in OpenOffice.
Don't think you can buy an upgrade for Access 95 to Access 2000. You can find out for sure at the Microsoft website. You can buy a stand-alone copy of Access 2000, so you don't need to buy the entire office suite. I think the newest version is Access 2003.
Best Luck,
Bob
