Microsoft Office is a group of professional office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. There are also different versions of Office with different applications included.
Microsoft Works is a cheap, one program does everything piece of software. Works is suitable for home users that don't need the full-feature programs.
Check out Microsoft.com for more details.
