microsoft office hyperlink problems

Microsoft Office outlook 2003

Specs: Windows XP
A friend has Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. I have Outlook Express 6.
Hyperlinks are not working from my friend's computer.

If my friend sends an email with a hyperlink from his computer to me or to himself, they won't activate. However, if I send his original
email back to him (via "Reply"), the hyperlink will activate.

Can you suggest where to look for activating the hyperlinks being sent from Outlook 2003?

This can be caused if the Google Chrome web-browser is installed and subsequently uninstalled -- it screws up hyperlinks so they don't work in any other web-browser, and angry comments about this abound on the Chrome forums.

It happenned on my wife's laptop after I removed Chrome when I discovered it had no print preview function - pants. The chrome forums indicated that the only fix is to re-install it (but you do not have to make Chrome the default browser). Indeed it did fix the problem for us.

Thank you for your reply. I'm not sure if Google Chrome is the problem here, I'll have to look into it further.
What I did discover, is that my friend has both Outlook 2003 and Outlook Express loaded in his computer.
Hyperlinks work in Outlook Express so I switched him to it. Good enough fix for now.

Thanks again for your help.

I'm having the same problem with a new Mac Pro, the hyperlinks won't stay blue. Can you tell me ( in easy terms) how to eliminate this problem. Thank you.
