messages stays in outbox

when I send an e-mail, its stays in the Outbox. But the person recieves the e-mail. And when I look in Sent it does not show up there. It just started doing this.Its a pain because everytime I close Outlook, its always telling me there is a e-mail in the outbox and do I wish to close anyway.
