Mail merge from Excel 2003 gives error messag

Hi, I am trying to use mail merge from an MS Excel 2003 List. This was working last week, and now all of a sudden, the Word document doesn't recognize the list. When selecting the Excel list to use, I get the error message "Word was unable to open the data source."

I have tried starting from a brand new word doc. Didn't work.

I have tried pasting my Excel list into a new spreadsheet and using that as the data source. Didn't work.

Updating to MS Office 2007 is not an option. I am working for a non-profit, so 2003 has to work. We used the mail merge function last week and it worked fine. I don't understand why this is an issue now. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

It won't be able to open the data source if someone is already in the spreadsheet, or if there is some kind of lock on the file.

I'd suggest you resave and close the spreadsheet, make sure no other users are viewing it, and try again.
