Please Help, I've been working on this problem for 6 months!!

I lost my copy of Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition software that I purchased from Staples. My laptop is in rough shape and can only use certain programs. Office is one of them but I have to go back and forth between my old laptop and my new one as my original Microsoft Office, Home and Student software disc is...who knows where! I have been trying to find out how to transfer for a long time. But wait, there's more....(sigh) I can do pretty well on the computer and it's simple enough to share programs on the same network, right? Not at my house! My old laptop boots all the other laptops off my network/homegroup. There's something terrably wrong here and it's way beyond anything I can deal with, hence the 6 long grueling months trying to deal with this @#it, oops I mean stuff (LOL) on my own. HELP!!!!!
Oh yeah, in case this helps any of you with your answer, (that is if there anyone who even want to come near this) I forgot to mention I got a good deal on old laptop when it was Vista. Then I downloaded Windows 7 and a brand new printer that maybe wasn't compatable? The more I try to fix this the more I make it worse.

Sound like your old laptop is causing an IP conflict. Are you using a router? Did you make sure all the computers you wish to share all belong to the same workgroup? eg Xp Home default workgroup is MSHOME and on XP PRO and up it's called "WORKGROUP", these can be changed to anything as long as they are all the same. Are the computers set to obtain an IP address automatically or do you have assigned static addresses. You can use Open Office (free) if you cannot afford to replace MS Office.
