CPU/Ram: Athlon 1333 / 256 Mg

My MS Office XP documents (especially Excel and Word files) take extremely long to open (over 1 minute for a 50 Kb file).
nce they open things work fine and fast, including saving files.
Acces documents take shorter to open but my systm hangs up for 15 secs after closing them.
Have ran Norton AV, AdAware etc with no results, have removed and reinstalles MS Office but the problem persists.
Any halp would be most welcome.
