16GB PST Files too much in size but don't be panic you can compact your PST files easily and reduce the size of heavy PST files. Go with compact PST tool that extracts the heavy attachments in a folder on your local hard disk.

Use the archive function - the data will still be available in the archive folders which, if you've never used it, will appear below your normal folders and are still readily available.but will reduce the size of the main .pst. Just remember to include the archive.pst with your normal backup.

Having said that 16Gb is quite large - my main pst is 275Mb and the archive is 4.5Gb and that's with data going back to 2007

Hi,

Yes, you can trim the .pst file in Outlook 2007. The first thing that you can do is to reduce the Exchange mailbox size by deleting or archiving items in your mailbox manually. Also you can select Tools → Mailbox Cleanup → AutoArchive to archive using Mailbox Cleanup.

The other option is to Split the large .pst file into multiple .pst file. You can use one of these steps.

-Archive feature to move items to a new .pst file
-Move to Folder feature to move items to a new .pst file.
