Don't tell the authorities, but my friend gave me a burned copy of Microsoft Office 2000 to install. All I really wanted was powerpoint and word, but specifically, word. I tried to install it, had the serial number and everything, and it seemed to be going okay but the installation wouldn't go past a certain point. I was very furious and left the room for about an hour or so and came back and it was still in the same position. I understand that a lot of things could be wrong here(burned copy, etc.,) but I was wondering; is Word from Microsoft Office 2000 compatible with Windows 98? Please help. It'd be greatly appreciated.

ABIWord is a good, free replacement to MS Word and is fully compatible. (As I understand it)

Hello Microsoft does this on purpose to make force you to buy their Full office package just to be compatible. No one should have that much trouble opening a file from the same company and type. You Should not have to install MSWorks to open and work with it in Excel it should Convert automatically. You should not have to buy anything other than the new platform such as Office 2002 and be able to use ANY file at least from the same company from any past releases to any future release. You pay one time and stay compatible.
So.. you MS hackers.. Keep on keeping on!
Microsoft....
you can Kiss M.A.

Indigi,
I don't know what you are going on about. Perhaps you meant to post on another thread regarding version compatibilities?

Indigi,
I have a burned backup copy of Office 2000 that works fine, there is no copy protection.
