This ability was working but has suddenly stopped. I have Vista, Word 2000 and Works Word.
If I highlight to copy text from internet to paste into Word 2000 the paste fails and Word 2000 quits responding and the program has to be closed.
If I copy text from internet and paste into Works Word the paste succeeds. If I then select and copy the internet text from Works Word the paste succeeds in Word 2000. You can copy/paste from within Word 2000.
I can't find a solution and believe there must be a conflict occurring between the two Word applications, but have had both operating together for a long time without any prior conflict.

Have you tried a Detect & Repair in Word?
Task Bar
Help
Detect & RepairYou might also try seeing what's in the Clipboard when you do the initial copy.
Start
Run
Type in clipbrd.exeYou can also purge everything that's in the clipboard, just to make sure it's clean before you try another copy/paste.
Sorry can't offer more.

Just noticed you are using Vista, which does not have the clipbrd.exe program.
As an alternative,
Open Word
Task Bar
View
Toolbars
Check ClipboardIt will add the Clipboard viewer to your task bars.

Clipboard had one item, and cleared that. No change; problem remains unresolved. As to using repair, I have some reluctance to use that method because at one time I had a problem with Winword. exe. Instead of opening Word immediately, it would always want to configure everytime you tried to open Word and sometimes after going through the configure routine the program might open or it might not. I finally resolved that issue but it is a prolonged process. The paste problem began before the loading issue and trying to solve two issues was enough.

Don't know if this will help, but it can't hurt.
Try for Vista:
Programs
Accessories
Run
and type in winword /rThis switch forces a re-register of Word in the Windows registry, see if that help.

Appears the problem has been resolved. Several days ago I was going to remove the virus/firewall program to see if it had changed the registry or file paths. Have had this virus/firewall by Sophos for several years. So late this afternoon I uninstalled the virus program first and bingo! Copy/paste functioned normally from each internet site tried. Then I uninstalled the firewall, then reinstalled the virus program by itself and everything was still working properly, then installed the firewall and no disruption of copy/paste since.
Thanks for your assistance.
