Input Not Supported Message

Specs: W XP, ?
I share my computer at work. It runs windows XP.
I put a new photo for my Desktop background & adjusted settings to try and get it lighter. By mistake I adjusted high mode color and now I can't return it the way it was before. I get error message "Input not supported".
I downloaded information on how to fix this - right click properties
Settings/Advanced/Adapter/List all mode.....

However - when my start up page opens - the Desk-top photo just shows briefly before the "Input not supported" comes up again. It does not give me a chance to fix it.

My work-mate shares this computer - thank goodness her settings are working fine - but when we log-off from her page and log onto mine - the error message comes on.
I need to fix this before Monday when my boss will see it!!!
