|My first suggestion is to call Brighthouse and ask them for the system requirements to use their VOIP service.|
In most cases, there should be no need for any additional hardware since the VOIP service will run over your network, be it wired or wireless. All you would need is a internet connection, which I assume you already have.
As far as software, Brighthouse may have their own software or recommendations for software that they are familiar with and could therefore help you set up and support.
