I can't open pdf or pps files in Win Live Mail.

May 9, 2013 at 01:45:53
Specs: Windows 7 HPrem, 64/6G
I am using Win live mail, win7-64.
Recently I have been finding that I cannot open .pdf or .pps attachments in win live mail.
They used to open fine. I get no error messages or other messages. It is just like my mouse is not working when clicking. I am very computer literate but this one stumps me.
I have tried double clicking and right click open.
Nothing happens. Jpgs are fine, .doc are fine.
Using Office 2010 powerpoint and I have tried Adobe, Foxit and Nitro 8 (which is the program I always have used. Only way is to save the files to my computer and then open them.

Any Help would be appreciated.

Unblocking Windows Live Mail attachments:

Re-associate the file to the application. Set Adobe Reader as default application to open pdf files, and set Ms. Powerpoint 2010 as default application to open ppt files.

Tried that and still had a problem. Did Virus and rootkit scan....all negative, malwarebytes also negative. Ran CCleaner and rebooted..... still a problem. Closed everything down.......went to bed.......booted computer .........WOW, IT SUDDENLY WORKED!!!!!!????? No reason seen. Tried 3 different PDF programs and all worked fine... PPS also working now.

I have no clue what went wrong and what fixed it. CYBER GHOST??
Thanks for your suggestion.

Computers have bad days too. The first troubleshooting step when a random problem occurs is typically to reboot and try again.

Not because it was necessarily related to this problem, but because it was referred to three times, I recommend avoiding Adobe Reader like the plague do to it's long, ongoing history of being vulnerable to malware attacks.

Apologies if I don't respond to your reply immediately. I don't check this site daily, but you're welcome to PM me as a reminder.
