|Unless I misunderstand what you are doing, the Names list has nothing to do with Data Validation.|
A Named Range is simply a range of cells that you have Named by using one of the various ways to name a range in Excel.
You can now use that name in place of cell references in formulas, macros, and yes, even Data Validation lists.
e.g. If you give A1:A7 a name of MyCells, you can now use =SUM(MyCells) instead of =SUM(A1:A7).
Deleting a Data Validation list simply deletes the Drop Down. It doesn't know anything about any Named Ranges in your workbook, nor should it. Imagine if you had a Drop Down based on MyCells as well as formulas that referred to MyCells. If you chose to delete the Drop Down and it also deleted the name from the Names list, all of the formulas that referred to MyCells would break.
If you want to delete the Name of a Named Range, you need to use the Name Manager found on the Formulas ribbon.
