Hi All
I am "hyperlinking" the contents page of a manual for my company (in Word 97)but when I click on a link the contents page is replaced by the page I linked to.
What I want is for the new page to open up over the top of the contents page, so when it is closed, the contenst page is still showing behind.
Is there a way to do this?
Thanks for your help, and sorry for the poor explanation.

I think I understand what your doing. If your writing HTML (even if its in word) you should be able to use javascript. Javascript is pretty simple and will definitly do the actions that your manual demands. There are many really good websites to teach javascript out there, one of the first ones on Google is Page Resourse:
http://www.pageresource.com/jscript/index2.htm
The second to last subject on that page has an example of how to open a new window and includes all of the commands to limit the new windows functions, size, etc..
A warning though, it will be a LOT easier (for debugging mostly) if you get a small background on some of the javascript tags that will be needed for a smooth intergration with HTML. So try to read up on that a little. I hope this fixes your problem
P.S. Depending on the situation, but I find it alot easier to use notepad or wordpad to write HTML. Word likes to insert all kinds of extra coding and coloring that really just confuses people.

You might try In Start, Settings, Folder Options, File-Types, doubleclick Microsoft Word document, uncheck "browse in same window".
Or do the same for .HTML document if it is not greyed out.

Hi Tox1cThreat, Bryco, and all
Tox1cThreat, thanks for your help, but I'm not that advanced & managed to get confused just reading what you were saying.
Bryco, looks as though you have solved my problem! Thanks heaps for your help.
Once again, the clever people at this site have solved my problem!
