how to insert blank space in data validation?

how to insert blank space in data validation list in excel 2007. I'm aware i can choose a range withh a blank cell, i'm looking to type the value in the box.

In 2003 you can enter a final comma and then a space and uncheck the "Ignore blank" option.

I'm not sure if you can place a blank in the middle of a drop down list unless you use a range of cells.
