|Excel stores dates and times internally as numbers, with the Integer portion being the date and the decimal portion being the time (stored as the decimal portion of 24hrs).|
With your November 8 showing in A1, try this:
Since it's a Date, LEN(A1) will probably return 5.
Regardless of how you format the cell, a date will still be a date within Excel and will be treated as such.
If you want to force a date to be a text string, formatted as General, use the TEXT function:
With that function in B1, try LEN(B1). You should now get 10.
You can then do a Copy...PasteSpecial...Values to eliminate the TEXT function and retain November 8 as Text, formatted as General.
If that doesn't merge correctly, try formatting the cell as Text after doing the Copy...PasteSpecial...Values.
