Solved How do I copy and paste in gimp?

Specs: Windows 7
I'm used to photoshop and have just started using gimp, but for some reason I can't seem to get copy and paste to work. I've already consulted the manuals, but they didn't help. I would appreciate it if someone could either talk me though what I'm doing wrong, or else confirm if it is a bug so that I can stop wasting my time and find a different program.

Essentially what I did is copy an image from another program (FitsViewer, if that's relevant). My understanding of this program is that this saves it to the clipboard in bitmap format. If I open a program like MS Paint or MS Word and paste the image in there, everything works fine, no issues. Do the same in Gimp, and I get an empty transparent selection, with no image. Doesn't seem to matter whether I just do Ctrl+V or Paste As -> Layer.

Anyone know what might be going on here?

Turns out this is a bug that is yet to be patched. Not really something the user can fix. Looks like I'll just have to find a different program.
