how do i change w2003 file permissions

April 24, 2011 at 00:24:23
Specs: Windows XP
I am a little behind the times and I am still running word 2003 and a file converter to open .docx.

I have been working on a file for the last 3 days and now I cannot find it on my computer. I saved it about 20 times today and it doesn't appear anywhere - the computer says in not in my system. There is only a pointer to the file.

I am getting a permissions error.

Is there any software I can download to help find this file, whether it's hidden or been deleted or something.

Any help would be great.

Before you Search, first:

Go into My Computer
and click on the Tools menu
and choose Folder Options.
In there, click on the View Tab
and put a check where it says "Show hidden files and folders"
and UNCHECK "Hide extensions for known file types"
and "Hide protected operating system files".

Then when you do your Search, make sure you check the "Advanced Options" and put a check in the box that reads:
"Search System Folders"
"Search Hidden files and Folders"
"Search Subfolders".

Also, don't search for the filename, which may have gotten inadvertently changed, just search for the extension and see what shows up.

And see here:
