My computer started to burn and that destroyed the motherboard and the win XP installation. I have a new harddrive and can see my old files but "How can I find my old e-mails and e-mail adresses" and save them or import them to my new harddrive? It is not possible to repair win XP on my old harddrive, I get an error message so I have to somehow move the files from one disk to another. I used outlook express. Please help!

Are you able to connect you old hard drive to your new hardware and if so, does it boot up? If so, you could forward the emails or save them as a text file.
Let me know if you find an answer to this one. I need to reformat my PC at work but don't want to lose the 2 years of emails I have that are work related.
I think the key is to know what the name of the mailbox file is but I have had NO luck with this in the past.
I'm not much help but I would like to know the answer to this question.

Hi I don't know the answer to this but I would post this in the XP forum as it seems to be more of a technical question rather than a software one and you might find a lot more responses.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
I posted my question on the Win XP forum and got an answer that worked for me.
Good luck!

It's possible...just went through it myself...
ONLY DO THIS IF YOU'RE AT LEAST A LITTLE COMPUTER SAVVY! If you're not have someone else do it for ya. =>DFirst things first, open up my computer, go to tools, folder options, and then on the view tab click "Show hidden files and folders".
Install your other drive or access it somehow, and go into:
E(or whatever drive it'll be):\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME/USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{7F0C58A0-8C8A-4AF5-AEF7-A04857CB3099(THIS NUMBER VARIES}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\
...then...copy inbox.dbx and sent items.dbx to the same folder on your new drive under your new username. It'll be like:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NEW NAME/USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{7F0C58A0-8C8A-4AF5-AEF7-A04857CB3099(THIS NUMBER VARIES}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\
It will warn you about overwriting your new files...and just say yes...unless you have new emails that you need.
That should be all...your address book (unless previously updated manually) will update upon scanning the messages when you open it.
Now here's the lame part...if you had other folders that you created (more than inbox and sent items), you'll have to create the exact same folder name in outlook express...then close outlook express...and import it using the method above.
Your other option is using dbxtract, a program that (VERY unreliably) extracts messages from a dbx file. But I'd go with the first if you have the know how.
Good luck. Post again and tell us if it worked!
