Solved How can I automate updates to linked password protected data

February 9, 2016 at 21:42:18
Specs: Windows XP
I have a few excel files which are password protected (different passwords) and I know all the passwords. I have a summary excel sheet which would extract data from those excel files (only some cells) and I would be prompted by a few windows asking me to key in data every time I open the file. Since I know all the passwords, is there a way that I do not need to key in any password and the excel sheet will still be updated when I open it? (like embeded in the linked)

A VBA solution can be created for this, even with different passwords for each Excel file. Check the solution below, i was able to do more or less the same as what you are asking for using VBA

if you explain your requirements better we can try to find you a suitable solution, i dont think you can embed a password into a link\hyperlink.

Thank you for the answer. I read the link but it seems that it is not my case.

I don't need to do repeated macros on many sheets, rather, I have one summary excel sheet (only I can access) which are linked to all these protected files (they can be edited by some other people in a shared folder). When the data in those files changed, I would expect the data in my sumamry excel sheet also changes. Now it works but everytime it requires me to key in password for all the protected sheets. I know all the passwords and is it a way that I can store all these passwords so that it never asks me for password and will auto update the data when I open the summary excel sheet?
