Help with excell's If statement

March 10, 2011 at 14:52:39
Specs: Windows XP
I'm attempting to total the number of different catagories with in a column. For instance I have many random '1' '2' or '3' running down column E. I want to total the number of 1s so I was using: =SUM(IF(E1:E500=1, 1, 0) Where I want the total of "1" in the column E.
It has worked, and continues to work, but I need to change it to include down to E700 and when I atempt to change it I get VALUE error.
Can anyone help? Thanks.

OK, I've been able to solve this by shortcutting to =COUNTIF(E1:E500=1)
So that's solved...but new problems comming up soon!
