Solved Help in creating a formula in Excel

Microsoft Excel for mac 2011 - macintosh
July 19, 2013 at 02:13:01
Specs: Mac OSX 10.8.4
It’s almost like as if I’m trying to do a double “OR”, but I’m not sure if it is possible. I would appreciate any help I could get.

Col. A=Input X, Y, Z or left blank
Col. B=123
Col. C=456
Col. D=789
Col. E is where the formula will reside

I’m trying to create a formula in col. E which has four possibilities depending on the input in col. A

If A1=X or A1=Y, then B1*C1
If A1=Z then E1=D1
If A1=“”, print “”

Any suggestions? TIA.

You need a Nested IF with an OR.

However, you seem to be missing a condition. What do you want returned if A1 does not equal any of your 4 choices? e.g. What happens if A1 contains Q?

This formula will get you what you asked for. It will return "" when A1 is blank, but it will also return "" for anything other than X, Y or Z.

Will that work for you?

Thank you for your response. It's exactly what I'm looking for.
To answer your question, I will be entering data into col. A. It will only be either (in this example) X, Y or Z. I don't want to see any calculations done before anything's entered, that's why I only want it shows nothing.

Thanks again.
