Golfing Spreadsheet - Smallest Values

Microsoft Office excel 2007

Specs: Windows XP
I have a column that has the scores of a golfer's round.. (e.g., +1, -2, E). I get the "E" value using if() (if the score less par equals 0, print an "E"). However, now I want to take the 3 lowest scores and combine them. Using the sum() function, it ignores the entries that have an "E" in them. As an example:

Col1 Col2 Col3
Golfer 72 E
Golfer 65 -7
Golfer 77 5
Golfer 73 1
Golfer 74 2
Golfer 75 3

I want to add together the 3 lowest scores (-7, E and +1 for a total of -6), however, when I use this formula =SUM((SMALL(H6:H11,1)),(SMALL(H6:H11,2)),(SMALL(H6:H11,3))), it spits out -4. I conclude it is ignoring the "E" value.

How can I fix this?

How can I fix this?

Change the E to a zero, is the only thing I can think of.
