Comment: I've been asked to open a Gmail account. If I can, I want Outlook Express to handle it. The NET told me that Gmail can be POP3 or IMAP, so I choose POP3. The incoming server is supposed to be pop.gmail.com, so I figured that the outgoing server would probably be smtp.gmail.com I also got (conflicting) information about which ports to 'use'. I replaced the default ones with 645 for the lower value and 993 for the higher value. The response has improved, but is still short of functionality. When I click on Send/Receive I get told that the server has not responded in 60 seconds - do I want to stop or wait. There is also "A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: 'GMail', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 993, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19" How can I progress towards success ? Basty

Reply: (edit)I use the setting IMAP, and i have no problem what so ever, i would try using this setting to see if it works, if that doesn't work, i would try and check your ports. Also make sure if you have a firewall that those ports are not disabled.

Reply: (edit)First I could not find where 'enable POP' was. When I found it and enabled it, the enablement tick kept disappearing. But somehow. despite that, it has come good and works well now. Basty
