It would help if you provided just a little bit more detail about why are trying to do.

What does your age column look like? What are your age groups? What do you want your counts to look like?

There's no sense in us trying to guess what your input is or what your output should look like. Odds are we'll get it wrong and waste everbody's time.

Please click on the blue line at the end of this post and read the instructions on how to post data in this forum. Then post an example your data, both input and the desired output based on that data. Thanks.

ages range from 5 to 104, in one column of 2227 items of which 2115 have values. I need ranges in 10-year groups starting from 5 to 95. I've tried using the frequency function but got errors in the array (due to the missing values in the table?). I tried using a pivot table but go the message that it couldn't group on the items. The only reason I'm trying this in excel is that epinfo doesn't like this table and totally distorts the results. I've tried it with older versions and epinfo7 and am not able to get anything to work. The ages are formatted as general numbers.

AHA! I got it solved! Going back to the origin of the data I found that the age variable was in the db as text and all my attempts to manipulate it as a number weren't working. I went back to the original db, changed the format to number, re-extracted it and then could work with it in both epinfo and excel.

Thanks to DerbyDad03 for responding.
