Hey all, I have a user with a problem in Excel throwing the following msg when excel is opened: "this workbook is currently referenced by another workbook and cannot be closed". I googled it and came up with some pretty uninformative stuff. it does not say anything about being a specific error msg such as a Run-time error '1004' or something.
I just completely uninstalled office, rebooted, and reinstalled it completely - not just excel. I also updated both Windows and office - had no effect whatsoever.
but the weird thing is, closing is not the problem. opening the program is when you see this msg. although from what I can tell it isn't really causing a problem. you can still open/create/use/and close spreadsheets all day long with out a problem. so why the error msg???
also, there are no macros on this machine and nothing out of the ordinary. just a basic excel user.
Big thanks to any response!
Chuck

Did you search the MSKB? I got lots of hits when I ran that error "this workbook is currently referenced by another workbook and cannot be closed" for Excel 2000 and 2002.
Here's just one example:
