Solved Excel stops working when I try to enter data

Specs: Windows 8
Hello,
I have a new PC, HP Pavilion.
Windows 8
Office 365/cloud

Until last week Excel worked fine.
Now I have a problem when I try to enter data on old or new spread sheets.
I can enter a row of data, but I cannot enter a column of data.
I get the message Excel has stopped working and Windows is shutting the program down.
I have deactivated the Excel add ins and the COM add ins and tried a few other fixes as suggested by Microsoft help sites but the problem persists.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated because its driving me nuts!

If nothing else is working, try doing a Repair,

Windows 8

Press the Windows logo key + X to see a list of commands and options.
(A quick way to get to Programs and Features in Control Panel)
Click Programs and Features
Click the Office program you want to repair
Click Change
Click Repair

Hello Mike,

sorry for taking so long to get back to you - been away.

I tried your suggestions and I'm afraid they didn't work.

But with the help of Knowhow support we found the problem was due to interference by some programmes by Mindspark "My web search" and/or "Maps Galaxy Toolbar".
I've no idea how these came onto my PC, probably piggybacked onto some other application and I didn't un-tick an install option.

I appreciate you help and hope anyone else with this problem find the posting useful.
