Hello,
On an Excel spreadsheet:
I have 5 columns, (1)a the name of the items, (2)a number, (3)numbers based on an average of differing numbers from the second column, (4)numbers based on an average of differing numbers from the third column, (5)averages of the numbers from the three columns before. When I try to sort the list by the fifth coumn, the order of the items is correct, but the correct numbers won't display, with many #Ref! signs throughout.
I would like to know how to sort the items by the fifth column with the correct numbers shown.
If someone could help, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

When you try to sort, some of the numbers (averages) are based on numbers that will change position when sorted (therefore the #REF! errors. If the numbers are final before the sort, you could fix the value of the numbers, then sort.

Yes, maintain your original spreadsheet but copy and paste it's entire contents into another worksheet using Paste, Special, Values and then you can sort away without error.

Thinking about the above; Select/highlight all of the data and then sort it by the fifth column and the other columns should properly sort with it.
