There are more than 1 way to create random numbers in Excel.

May I suggest that you look in the Excel Help files for the answer that fits your needs. Just enter random in the Help files search field.

If you have specific questions about the use of the info you find in the Help files, come on back and we'll see what we can do to help you.

I'm not sure what you are asking for.

If you want to know what functions to use in Excel create random numbers, there are 2 Excel functions (RAND and RANDBETWEN) and well as various VBA methods. That's why I suggested that you review the Help files. Besides describing the functions themselves, the Help files offer some tips on using them.

On the other hand, if you are asking us to breakdown the internal workings of Excel and tell you how the program generates a random number when you use the RAND or RANDBETWEEN functions, then I suggest you Google:

Excel RAND algorithm

I hope that helps.

As DerbyDad03 said, just type 'random' into Excel's help.

It shows two random functions:
RAND() which it describes as:
Returns an evenly distributed random real number greater than or equal to 0 and less than 1. A new random real number is returned every time the worksheet is calculated.
RANDBETWEEN(bottom,top) which it describes as:
Returns a random integer number between the numbers you specify. A new random integer number is returned every time the worksheet is calculated.
RANDBETWEEN requires that you have the analysis toolpack Add-In installed.
