When I type text into a spreadsheet line & press enter all that comes up is #NAME? What can I do to just have what I typed into the line be there. Excel help has some info on this #NAME? but I can't understand what they are talking about. If I type the words pricing information it shows with no problem but if I type --- pricing information & press enter all I get is #NAME?

Excel interprets --- as maths so what you are doing is maths on text, try enclosing your words in quotes as follows: "--- pricing information".

By default, your cells are formatted as General. If you type in --- before the text, Excel thinks you're attempting to type a formula, thus the error. You need to make sure that your cell is formatted as Text BEFORE typing the information in the Cell.
