I have a major excel problem.Yesterday Excel began acting up, seemingly arbitrarily. Opening either a specific spreadsheet OR the program itself caused my system to freeze, and get a 'low resources' warning, although nothing else was open at all. A warning box stating something to the effect of 'Excel has caused a general protection fault in module User.exe' and then some numerics. Then all programs come tumbling down (explorer, etc) and I must restart. I use an antivirus, firewall, ran ad-aware, hijack this, a thorough scan of the hard drive, and NOTHING. I even reinstalled Office to try to fix, and still I get the problem. I tried a suggestion from another regarding changing a excel.xlb file name, and also delelting it. Nothing worked so far.No idea, but this is crucial because I use Excel all day every day.
HELP!
Thanks in advance

Try logging on as a different user and see if the problems go away. If so, try undoing any customizations in your profile; such as add-ins, custom font size, etc.

Thanks G. That actually worked. Now how do I know what customizations I have and where they are located? I'm not aware of any. Also, this is a netorked laptop. Does that have any effect?

That's the hard part. First remove add-ins and test. If that works, you can add the add-ins again and things should stay okay. If that doesn't take care of it, you will have to recall if you made any changes to default font size or colors or anything - and it could be something you did a long time ago.
Good luck!
