Product: Microsoft Excel 2007

Comment:

With Excel 2007 and Internet Explorer 8 (with Windows 7) is there any way to open a hyperlink in a new Tab rather than a different window.

Sonehow I had it working OK with Vista but since installing Windows 7 it opens in a new window everytime ( I do not think it is Windows 7 related)

TIA

Try:

Down the bottom Restore Defaults

Then check Always switch to new tabs when created

In the drop down box for When a new tab is opened
Make sure you select: The New tab page

In the Open Links from other programs section
Check A new Tab in Current Window

Hopefully that should do it.

I might uninstall Office 2007 and install Office XP just to see if that will make any difference
I do appreciate your time and assistance. Thank you

Try a different program, hyperlink to Word or Paint and see if IE8 will open that in a Tab.

I am literally just about to reformat PC and load windows 7 (internet explorer 8 comes with it). After loading the first thing I will do is install Excel and see if it works as it should do.
If it doesn't later I will try what you said.
I will keep you updated.
Thanks for your time

Try this:

In the Open Links from other programs section
Check A new Tab in Current Window

In the When a pop-up is encountered section,
Check Always open pop-ups in a new tab.

It's the only way I can get a hyperlink to open in a new Tab in the current window.

Reformatted now, Windows 7 with IE 8 and Office 2007 installed
Hyperlink NOW WORKING as I want it................i.e. in a tabbed window.
No idea why it wouldn't do that before :-(
I sincerely thank you for your time and help.
