No afraid not :-( I might uninstall Office 2007 and install Office XP just to see if that will make any difference I do appreciate your time and assistance. Thank you

Try a different program, hyperlink to Word or Paint and see if IE8 will open that in a Tab.

I am literally just about to reformat PC and load windows 7 (internet explorer 8 comes with it). After loading the first thing I will do is install Excel and see if it works as it should do. If it doesn't later I will try what you said. I will keep you updated. Thanks for your time

Try this:
In the Open Links from other programs section Check A new Tab in Current Window
In the When a pop-up is encountered section, Check Always open pop-ups in a new tab.
It's the only way I can get a hyperlink to open in a new Tab in the current window.

Reformatted now, Windows 7 with IE 8 and Office 2007 installed Hyperlink NOW WORKING as I want it................i.e. in a tabbed window. No idea why it wouldn't do that before :-( I sincerely thank you for your time and help.
