December 23, 2013 at 09:59:51
Specs: Windows XP
using a match function to pull assigned values related to a name in col A.

If i copy and paste the name ffrom column A it works properly.

If I type the name....exactly the same....it does not recognize the match

here is the line
=IF(E3=""," ",IF(ISNA(INDEX($A$2:$B$158,MATCH(E3,$A$2:$A$158,0),2)),250000,INDEX($A$2:$B$158,MATCH(E3,$A$2:$A$158,0),2)))

Not sure what else is going on,
but the formula, as posted, works for me.

If E3 is blank, it returns blank
If E3 contains the string "mike" and the cell range A2:B158 does not contain "mike" it returns 250000
If E3 contains the string "mike" and the cell range A2:B158 does contain "mike" it returns the value in column B

From the sounds of it, it wold seem you are introducing a stray character probably a space, someplace along the line.

Also, Excel questions are best asked in the Office Software Forum.
