Solved Excel how to look up specific text for a two part calc?

November 7, 2013 at 13:58:12
Specs: Windows 7
So I have a column "H" of prices and a column "I" with a corresponding description. The description has multiple words and numbers in it.

I need a new price list on column "J" for the next year based on a 5% and 10% increase in prices from column "H".

If the description has the word "SENSOR" in the beginning, middle, or end I have to calculate the price at the 10% rate. If it does not I need to calculate it at 5%.

The problem is the word "Sensor" could be in the middle of a long description so I don't know what function I should use.

Any help would be amazing!

Try this, with your data like:

      H I J
1) Price Description New Price
2) $10.00 Alpha sensor $11.00
3) $12.00 Sensor Alpha Beta $13.20
4) $3.00 Beta Sensor Alpha $3.30
5) $5.00 Alpha Beta $5.25

In cell J2 enter the formula:

Drag down as many rows as needed.

See if that works for you.
