Excel grid lines and paint block

Excel, blank spread sheet open... The grid lines are visible that divides all the rows and columns...
I select a block of cells, say from A1 to D10 and then I choose to fill in the block with a yellow background and save it...
I change my mind and remove the yellow fill in the blocked area and change it back to white using the Paint Can icon and choosing either "No Fill" or the white color...
In each case the grid lines DO NOT reappear on the spreadsheet...

when you want to reverse the hilighting and get the grid lines back you can select the area and choose "no fil" not white.
You can also use format / cell / borders /, and change selected border lines or groups of them to ANY color you want. there is an option on that window to choose which color you want.
Summary: Yes, well we had hoped to do it in Excel as we figured it would be easier to create the actual schedule. I'm not quite sure how you would generate a schedule using a report. I mean...you could build a...
