Hello all,
First I'd like to thank he two gentleman for the help they have given me. It is trult appreciated. I have a formula that I would like to know if it is correct. Here are the basics.
A1 Assignment B1 5 (this is the base)
A2 Assignment B2 5 yada yada yadaThere are 5 assign/lab/test/exam
Base for assignment 1 is 45 and the base for assignment 2 is 30 etc. (This is line 16.)Students marks are on Line 18 (Column D and E for example). To get the total mark at the end this is the formula I have.
(D18/D16)*B1+(E18/E16)*B2 etc etc etc. Is this correct? What it is supposed to do is this, Assignment one is worth 45 marks but it is only worth 5% of the total mark for the course, Assignment 2 is worth 30 marks but is only worth 5% of the total mark.
AND in order to get the references absolute when moving column to column and row to row where do I put the "$" Line 16 will always be the same, but I'm moving from rows 18-38
Thanks for looking and I hope I did it right. And I hope this isn't confusing.

Here's an example I'd use to see if I'm correct with what you are asking:
A B C D E Total
Name2 43 27 48 100
Name3 45 30 41 88
Name4 etc. etc. etc.
Name5
TotalPTS 45 30 50 100
%Grade 5 5 10 80A grade sheed with 5 students, the total assignment point is listed in row marked Total PTS, and % of final grade is below that. In the total column on the first student's name, type:
=(B1/B$6)*(B$7/100)+(C1/C$6)*(C$7/100)+
(D1/D$6)*(D$7/100)+(E1/E$6)*(E$7/100)
Press Enter, then fill the rest of rows below it. References to TotalPTS and %Grade will remain constant ($ before number) when you fill down ($ before letter when filling across).Hope this helps

EDIT: the top row of letters represent columns A-F, but only F was changed to total. Names represent row numbers (ex. Name2 is in row 2). Also, a space was used to break between cells in a row.
